This is an original print inspired by the Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga (Scrolls of Frolicking Animals), a famous Japanese art scroll that dates back to the 12th and 13th century.

Before I started making woodblock prints, I spent several years working as a children's book illustrator. I've always had a soft spot for cute animals. As a kid, I loved Wind in the Willows, Brambly Hedge and Redwall. So I was naturally drawn to those ancient Japanese depictions of frogs, rabbits and monkeys, which seem to leap from the page with life.

This piece was carved and printed by Camilo Díaz Ocampo, a craftsman in Mexico who is diligently teaching himself the art of Japanese printmaking. He did such a lovely job on this print, I can't wait to see what he achieves in the future! By purchasing this print, 75% of revenue goes directly to Camilo. This item measures 8 x 8.5 inches (20 x 22 cm). The paper is 100% cotton French printmaking paper. It's a little stronger than our usual Japanese paper, and feels great to the touch. Each print is signed by Jed Henry and numbered.
